The everyday reality

A book rarely comes together in a single program.

Text here, comments there, the layout somewhere in between at the end. That's exactly where time gets lost.

Four programs, one book

A word processor for writing, PDFs for beta readers, a typesetting program for print: every switch costs a round of formatting.

Versions drift apart

"Manuscript_final_v3_CORR.docx": as soon as several people are reading along, nobody knows for sure which version is the current one.

Feedback without a location

Comments arrive by email, WhatsApp and voice message. Finding the spot in the text again takes longer than the correction itself.

What you get

Writing, revising and publishing stay together.

Write with focus

A calm editor with a daily goal, focus mode and automatic saving. No layout distractions during the first draft.

Feedback right on the text

Comments are attached to the passage in the text, not stuck in an inbox. You accept suggestions with one click.

How it works

Five steps to a finished layout.

Create a project

Set the title, genre and target word count, or import an existing manuscript.

Write chapters

In the editor or in focus mode, with a daily goal and progress for each chapter.

Gather feedback

Give beta readers a reading link or commission proofreading and editing.

Check the preview

Leaf through the book in its real page format before exporting it.

Export

DOCX, PDF, Pages, HTML or TXT, in the layout you have set.

Editor

Four modes for four ways of working.

Write, focus, revise, preview: you switch with one click, without leaving the file. Focus mode hides everything, dims the surroundings and counts the words and minutes of your session.

Formatting is deliberately kept minimal: bold, italic, underline, subheading, quote, lists and scene breaks. Enough for a manuscript, too little to get sidetracked.

  • Keyboard shortcut ⌘⇧F for focus mode
  • Automatic saving with visible status
  • Comment directly from a text selection
Typesetting

The typesetting is already in the manuscript.

You set paper size, margins, font, headers, page numbers and the scene break symbol once. From then on, writing view, preview and export all show the same result.

Twenty paper sizes from KDP to DIN, mirrored inner and outer margins, custom chapter patterns such as "Chapter [1]" and a cover from 24 genre templates or your own image.

  • 20 paper sizes including KDP trim sizes
  • Scene break symbol as a character or your own icon
  • The preview breaks lines exactly where the PDF does
Beta readers

One link: read and comment, nothing more.

You assign a name and get a reading link. Whoever opens it sees only this manuscript: no login, no account, no access to other projects.

Beta readers highlight a passage and write their comment on it. The assigned name appears automatically on every comment, so you always know who the feedback came from.

  • Read and comment, no editing
  • Edit or delete their own comments later
  • Link can be revoked at any time
Quality check

Proofreading and editing, with AI or with people.

There are four routes to choose from: proofreading and editing, each either by AI in minutes or by service providers in five to fourteen working days. You decide afresh with each submission and choose whether the whole manuscript or individual chapters are reviewed.

Before you send it off, you can see what it costs: how many words are covered by your monthly allowance and what is charged beyond that. The version is frozen, and you simply keep writing in the meantime.

  • Costs are fixed before submission
  • Monthly word allowance included in your plan
  • Feedback lands in revision mode

Import & export

Your manuscript comes and goes the way you need it to.

You import existing texts from DOCX, TXT, Markdown, RTF or Pages ’09. Titles, headings, italics, paragraphs and scene breaks are recognised; chapters can later be split at subheadings.

The export brings your layout along: page size, mirrored margins, headers and footers with page number fields, and one section per chapter. Five formats are available.

  • Import from five formats including Pages
  • Export as DOCX, PDF, Pages, HTML and TXT
  • Split chapters at subheadings

What happens before and after.

Writing is one step in a book project; these modules connect directly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

The Manuscript module is the writing workspace of the Authorial suite: you write chapters in a focused editor, gather feedback via reading links, submit text for review and export your book in its finished layout, all in one project, without switching between programs.

For self-published authors and writers who want to write a book in a single tool, from the first sentence to publication, from a debut to a series. No typesetting knowledge is needed, because preview and export use the same layout settings.

Yes, it is included from the Free plan. The module is in Early Access and is being rolled out gradually; you can get on the list by signing up for Early Access. Only reviews that go beyond your monthly word allowance are charged.

You can import manuscripts from Word (DOCX), Pages ’09, Markdown, RTF and TXT. Chapters are recognised by their headings and can later be split at subheadings.

As PDF, DOCX, Pages, HTML and TXT, each in the book layout you have set up with paper size, font and scene breaks. 20 paper sizes, including the common KDP trim sizes, are ready to go, so the PDF is print-ready straight away.

Focus mode hides menus and sidebars and shows only the text; you can reach it with the keyboard shortcut ⌘⇧F. There are also the revision, preview and layout modes: four ways of working on the same manuscript.

Yes. Every change is saved continuously, and the save status is visible in the editor at all times. There's no need to save manually.

Via a reading link. It opens exactly one manuscript without login and allows reading and commenting, but no editing. The comments land in revision mode, and you can revoke the link at any time.

Yes. For each submission you choose proofreading or editing, by AI in minutes or by service providers in 5–7 or 10–14 working days respectively. The costs are fixed before you send it off, and the reviewed version is frozen so you can keep writing in the meantime.
